I love holiday-birthday-wedding- any celebration gift shopping. I enjoy scouring stores looking for that perfect gift for the perfect recipient. Something that hits the right mark and price point. I look for unique items that have the perfect amount of shine: something special that the recipient may not otherwise buy themselves. That means items with unique details that stand out from the crowd.
Window shopping (online and in person) is one of my favorite things to do and I draw so much gift and fashion inspiration from displays and items I see. I have been knows to snap photos of displays I see in stores to inspire my outfits, decor, or gifts for later. I also have been known to snap pictures of items I love that I absolutely cannot afford and I will look for at a lower price point.
Speaking of price points, what is your gifting price point? All told I usually spend $25-$40 dollars per person that I buy gifts for. That includes one or two items that I usually snag at a good price, for example a sweater and socks or a book and a candle. Occasionally, I will spend extra on a special gift that I know someone really wants or needs. This year I actually broke down and got my husband an Xbox One (on sale at Walmart for Black Friday and I had a Walmart gift card, but still about $325). Those splurges are carefully weighed and researched and are only a once-every-few-years big gift expense.
I prefer to give thoughtful yet small gifts that I believe the recipient will actually like or use. I grew up in a family that always gifted frugally with an occasional splurge gift (like luggage) so I continue that tradition. Besides, I have never had much money to spend in my gift budget. And I believe that the gift is much more important than the price tag.
